Moda Fabrics

Moda Fabrics and United Notions began in 1975 and has become one of the largest manufacturers in the quilting industry. Moda prides itself in being innovative and creative market leaders. High quality products and customer service will remain the cornerstones on which they base their growth and expansion. As well as their own team of in house designers Moda employ a large number of well-known freelance fabric designers. Amongst these are: -

Kansas Troubles Quilters, which started in 1989 when three friends began quilting together & selling their wares at craft shows. After many requests for the patterns of their original creations, two of the women continued their endeavours in the quilting world by publishing their patterns for wholesale distribution to quilt shops beginning in 1994. Twelve years later (after another partner retired in 1999), Lynne has 40 patterns, 18 books (five in a series of historical quilts as well as quilters journals) & 19 collections of fabric with Moda. There’s always something new in the works at Kansas Troubles Quilters - from new fabric lines to books, patterns, workshops & retreats.

Barb Adams and Alma Allen met several years ago when Barb took an appliqué class from Alma. They decided to begin a quilt book publishing company called Blackbird Designs. Both Barb and Alma are inspired by the colours and textures of fabric. They not only enjoy working on quilts, but also are excited by cross-stitch and rug hooking. They try to include projects with wool and cross-stitch in their books. They both appreciate the break a small project offers after working on several large quilts.

When Joanna Figueroa was 8 years old, she held her first art show where she convinced all the neighbours on her street that they each had to have a Joanna painting for their walls. She made $5 which was a fortune to her! And from then on it seems that it has never stopped. Later on the paintings changed to drawings, to cards, to jewellery, to pottery. In college she became fascinated with graphic design and the art of papermaking. But when she discovered quilting, she knew that this was the medium for her. She started off as "Figlets" selling small quilted pillows and wall hangings in local shops and Street Fairs. Soon after she began working at her local quilt shop, teaching quilt classes and designing her own patterns. Later on she started Fig Tree Quilts. Why "Fig Tree" many people have asked? Is it a particular fondness for the fruit? A Biblical reference? A childhood memory? Actually, it’s not all that profound. Instead its all about her husband Eric Being that their last name is Figueroa, his friends have referred to him as "FIG" since Junior High School. And since they often call their kids the Figlets and Eric runs all the background and production work of the company, they couldn’t think of a more appropriate name than FIG TREE. And so FIG TREE QUILTS was born.
